Pilates Conference in Sunny California

Greetings from sunny San Francisco, CA!

I just spent 3 intense days at the Body Mind Spirit Pilates expo. A sample of my ‘course syllabus’ reflects why I love Pilates as much as I do. In what other course of study could you take “Demystifying the Pelvic Floor relationship to Spinal Support”, followed by “Remember to Yawn”, followed by “Reformer Choreo for Men”? Many of the big players were there: Kathy Corey, Peter Fiasca, Mary Bowen, Madeline Black.

I learned lots of interesting, fun and challenging choreography, but most importantly gained wisdom from teachers who have been studying/practicing/teaching Pilates for 2, 3, 4 decades or more.

A few of us shared lunch with Kathy Corey and got to pick her brain. One of the most profound things she shared was: Practicing Pilates for 3 hours a week is great, but it becomes truly invaluable when you can translate it to the remaining 164 hours of your average week. Pilates is not just toning your muscles. It is a coherent language of movement that trains your body and mind to work smoothly throughout all of your daily activities, not just your time on the reformer.

Anyway, I’m glad to say that I’m giving my muscles a rest. 12 hours of Pilates within 2 days is…um…intense.

T-minus 2 weeks to the new space!
