FAQs

What’s Pilates (and, more importantly, what’s all the fuss about)?
Pilates (pronounced pill-ahh-teez) is a series of exercises, for all ages and fitness types, that develops strength, flexibility, endurance, improved posture, alignment, coordination, and balance.

It focuses foremost on the core abdominal muscles that support the spine. Pilates lengthens the muscles while strengthening them, so you will never bulk up. The result is a stronger, leaner, longer body.

The equipment acts to support and challenge your total body. You will achieve a new awareness of your muscles as you work for length and control against varying resistance levels.

Isn’t it just for chicks or ballerinas?
Nope. Joseph Pilates invented the method after all, and he was a guy. And while ballerinas were some of the first population to make Pilates popular in the 70s, it is now a mainstream exercise form that can help anyone who wants to feel strong (even football teams are incorporating it into their fitness regimes).

What will happen in my 55 minute session?
I’ll spend the first 10 minutes or so of your first session with a brief postural assessment, then I’ll start teaching you the basic core principles of Pilates. I will personally tailor the remainder of your session to your specific goals, which may include work on the Reformer, Cadillac, chair and barrel. Each session varies greatly depending on the client.

I love the idea, but this economy is making it hard for me to justify buying a coffee, much less a private fitness session. Can I afford this?
This question is the enormous elephant in the room. My answer is that Pilates, when practiced mindfully even once a week, can have a profound impact on your body and can truly improve your quality of life. My advice is this: skip eating an expensive meal here and there, save up for a few Pilates sessions, and then let your body tell you what it thinks.

What differentiates Sarah Aldrich Pilates ?
I am certified through the Kane School’s rigorous Pilates teacher training program (www.kaneschool.com). The Kane School requires its graduates to have a thorough understanding of the underlying principles of Pilates, as well as the ability to think independently, rather than simply sticking to a rote instruction pattern. The Kane School has provided me with a unique approach that allows me to take the ingenious principles of Pilates and tweak them to best suit each client’s needs.
