Why do I teach Pilates?
I love to move. I studied classical ballet and figure skating for 10 years and have been a distance runner since high school. In 2006 I had painful foot surgery for which an orthopedist prescribed orthotics. The orthotics made my foot muscles atrophy so badly that I couldn’t walk barefoot across the room without wincing. My distance running days seemed over.
On the advice of friends I tried Pilates. At first, the machinery and exercises were mysterious. But one Pilates session a week took away my foot pain, melted my belly away and made me feel stronger than I ever have. Pilates strengthened my feet to the point where I didn’t need the orthotics at all and I can run again. In addition to helping me regain my ability to move, the focused breathwork that is central to Pilates helps me stay calmer and more focused in my daily work.
My experience inspired me to share Pilates with other people, and led me to the Kane School to become a certified instructor. I believe Pilates is a powerful tool, one that can help virtually any body. As an instructor, it is both my honor and responsibility to teach each client how to best use it, to ultimately help them live with a stronger body and a clearer mind.
