Who We Are
We believe that Pilates is the ideal modality for helping people of all ages and ability levels inhabit their best bodies. Our mission is to give clients the tools to cultivate postural awareness, build strength and flexibility and rehabilitate from injuries through corrective exercise.
At Aldrich Pilates we celebrate the fact that our staff is comprised of instructors with a variety of Pilates training backgrounds. It is our firm belief that like everything in life, methods evolve over time and no one approach is right for every body.
Our mission is to give clients the tools to cultivate postural awareness, build strength and flexibility and rehabilitate from injuries through corrective exercise.
We thoughtfully plan the choreography of each class and session, tailoring our programming to our clients’ interests and needs. Unlike some fitness classes where the instructor performs the workout with you, our instructors spend the majority of the class closely observing you and correcting your form.
Our large sunny studio offers both a quiet oasis for busy professionals and/or clientele with rehabilitative needs, as well an energizing hive of activity for clients seeking higher intensity exercise.
Aldrich Pilates had humble beginnings in January 2009. For Sarah, the Pilates Method was about harnessing breath, quieting the mind and focusing closely on simple movements designed to train the body into moving from a place of core stability. Within 2 months of consistent Pilates practice her body changed dramatically. After 25 years of yoga, dance, ice hockey and running, 2 months of Pilates gave her a whole new sense of her body.
Soon after completing the rigorous Kane School Pilates Instructor Certification program, Sarah Aldrich started teaching a handful of clients in a 500 sq ft room on the fringe downtown New Haven. Her primary goal at that time was to spread the Pilates gospel to the local community. She had a single piece of Pilates apparatus, a lot of enthusiasm, a genuine curiosity about people and a commitment to helping them get stronger while remaining pain-free.
Her primary goal at that time was to spread the Pilates gospel to the local community.
The business rapidly outgrew the space. Within two years Sarah moved to a 1500 sq ft studio in the heart of downtown New Haven. She hired a staff of 5 instructors and increased programming to include larger group mat and equipment classes.
In August 2013 she relocated AP’s staff of 7 to our current 5000 sq ft space where we teach an average of 150 clients/week. Every day, one class at a time, our instructors strive to impart their Pilates knowledge to their clients and see them become more empowered in their bodies.
“You have a beautiful studio–gorgeous–with more Pilates equipment than I even knew existed. Everyone I met there was warm, friendly, helpful, and encouraging.”
“The comparison between my experience at Aldrich Pilates and what was called Pilates at my health club and at physical therapy is rather like the comparison between an Italian dinner at a wonderful restaurant in Florence versus pizza from a pizza delivery chain. Both are Italian but they are very different.”
